organiser: South Lanarkshire
Council.
World War II veterans from all over Lanarkshire
were invited to attend the Lord Lieutenant's VE-VJ Day celebration
in Motherwell Concert Hall on Sunday, August 21, 2005.
Following a champagne reception there was
a keynote speech from Jan de Vries, talking about life in occupied
Holland and thanking the veterans for helping free his country.
To mark the event Lanark writers' group
were asked to write about their wartime experiences for South
Lanarkshire Council's website and for the VE Day supplement which
appeared in South and North Lanarkshire's local newspapers.
