East Ayrshire's war: WW2 poems part 1 (text)

Evacuee

The Evacuee is a dark grey.
He is a cold dark winter
and a misty swamp
with a torn T-shirt
on a ragged armchair.
He is Goodnight Mister Tom
and a worm eaten apple.

Christopher McGinn
P7

The Evacuee

The EVACUEE is gloomy black
She is depressed winter
In a dull sludgy swamp.
She is a thunder sky
With a moldy brown skirt
And a sticky leather stool.
She is Anne Frank’s Diary
With small, soggy sandwiches.

Dionne Robinson

Evacuee

The Evacuee is dark green
He is a damp winter
In a creepy old ruin
With grey sleet.
He is ragged dirty trousers
And an old rusty fire guard
He is the blitz
And mouldy damp bread.

Cameron Rafferty
Primary 7

Evacuee

The evacuee is mustard yellow.
He is frosty winter
In swampy streets
With snowy mountains.
He is a torn jumper
With an exploded sofa
He reads Horrible War Times
And drinks ice soup.

Craig McDonald
Primary 7

Evacuee

is a slate grey
She is a stormy winter
In a soaking Anderson’s Shelter
Which is dark.
She is a patched up cardigan
And the blitz,
She is mouldy cheese
On damp piece of bread.

Jodie Murphy
Primary 7
