Home Front: The Effect on Family Life Iris Barclay of Kinlochleven recalls the shock of seeing her father in uniform for the first time

Iris Barclay of Kinlochleven recalls the shock of seeing her father in uniform for the first time

I remember opening the door and this soldier in a khaki uniform and boots and everything coming up the stair of our house and I thought, 'That's my daddy!' [Laughter] And Daddy was all done up in khaki with a haversack and a gas mask and everything. It was really funny. He didn't actually have to go away and do anything but there were voluntary services and other things to take care of the people at home. But it was such a laugh seeing him in this uniform.
