Alistair Mackintosh
remembers when bombs were dropped on Foyers
And
at first, everything was very quiet. It was like just
now, when we have wars, they don't seem to come near us.
But this one really did come, and when they heard about
bombing Foyers, my father saw the plane - it was a Dornier
and they called it the Flying Pencil. It was a long, long
plane. It came along, dropped the bombs on Foyers and
damaged the pipeline and it shows how - and I notice you
children speak very clearly (it's a good thing) - there
was a mistake made. Someone in Inverness said, 'They're
dropping bombs on Fo-ers'. Didn't pronounce Foyers pro-
And the enemy were allowed to get off because they thought
it was Forres instead of Foyers. So if you speak clearly,
it was very important. But as it was, they got the plane
and the Germans were caught out in the Moray Firth. But
it was a bad mistake: Foyers for Forres. But anyway, that
passed.
