The making of Young Patriots Inverclyde's War: The making of Young Patriots (text)

An original screenplay by Philip Vermaas, Young Patriots was written especially for the War Detectives project. The screenplay was based on some of the stories collected by pupils during their interviewing of local senior citizens and characters were named after these contributors. The film featured pupils from St. Ninian’s Primary School who, under the guidance of Inverclyde Arts Jacky Folley, turned out a fantastic performance.

Young Patriots was filmed in several locations around Inverclyde but most of the action took place in Greenock’s St. Mary’s Primary School. The school was chosen as a location as one of our contributors, Felix Burns, attended St. Mary’s during the war and the school still retains many of its original features.
