Jan 8th Rationing introduced for ham, bacon and sugar.
Mar The liner Queen Elizabeth furtively left the Clyde, without undergoing trials, and sped across the Atlantic to enter service as a troop ship.
Apr 9th Germany invaded Denmark and Norway.
May 10th Germany invaded Netherlands and Belgium, and advanced into France.
May 10th Winston Churchill became Prime Minister.
Jun 3rd Evacuation of British Expeditionary Force from Dunkirk.
Jun 14th The Queen Mary and several other great liners arrived in the Clyde, bringing a large contingent of Australian and New Zealand troops.
Jun 22nd France surrendered.
Jun 29th Germany occupied Channel Isles.
Jul 19th First German raid on Glasgow
Jul-31st Oct Battle of Britain.
Sep The ‘Blitz’ on London began.
Nov 5th German raid on Fraserburgh. 32 people killed, some as a result of a direct hit on a public house. Over the duration of the War, Fraserburgh, per head of population, suffered more bombing casualties than any other town in Scotland.
