School children interview Jean and Teresa about raids during the war
Was your house bombed or anyone that you knew?

Teresa: We weren’t bombed particularly, we were in Essex during the War and we were near Dagenham which had all the car factories and there was Regent petrol and they had a big garage there with all their tankers and bombing was quite active but no in our street but close by. Also a mobile attack gun that used to run up and down our street firing at the planes it was like a bomb going off its self it was so loud it used to shake the buildings and the dirt would come down through the cracks in the shelter.

Did you collect any shrapnel?

Teresa: Yes, a big piece which my mother, your bed was in the shelter and there was a lot of condensation so your clothes had to be out every day and this lump of shrapnel went right through the sheet was torn right down.
