Coming to school you always had to carry your gas mask. The thing I remember about these gas masks was the dreadful smell they were just awful but you had to have your gas mask. We had to have practise drills with these things to see if you could put them on and off properly.

Now gas masks have been spoken about. It was a little wee square box with a waterproof covering and you went out every day everywhere you went this thing went with you and the babies had a great big box thing. It must have been frightening for them to be put into it but a gas mask is no use for a baby. So this big contraption was there.
