Gas masks

Wartime memories: Gas Masks (transcript)
Mrs Taylor
Coming to school you always had to carry
your gas mask. The thing I remember about these gas masks was the dreadful
smell they were just awful but you had to have your gas mask. We had
to have practise drills with these things to see if you could put them
on and off properly.
Mrs Mowat
Now gas masks have been spoken about. It
was a little wee square box with a waterproof covering and you went
out every day everywhere you went this thing went with you and the
babies had a great big box thing. It must have been frightening for
them to be put into it but a gas mask is no use for a baby. So this
big contraption was there.
