We had 3 POW working with us 1 was Sarafino
Zeonello. He came from the POW camp in Stuartfield he was a super boy.
He was a policeman in Italy. He got a piece of land from my father
and he grew carrots spinach and other things and he sold them to the
POW camp for money.
Mrs Hay
Italian German POW at Stuartfield there was a big camp at Stuartfield.
A big lorry came round every morning and dropped 1 off here 2 off there
then picked them up at night. “You got the same ones every day”
more or less. If you had a Chaumer or a sleeping place sometimes got
to stay. The Germans were good workers Italians were ok they were awfully
tidy they were more busy with their clothes in an evening.
Mrs Thomson
It was a German who came the next time he was Heinze Kloch you called
him. He was a super chap. He came more or less at the end of the war
and after the war he married a girl from Insch. He stayed there I don’t
know if he is still here but he stayed with the farmer up at Insch.
He used to come and visit my mother and father he was super.
