We will remember them : Evacuation of Inver: Shopping in Inver Part 2 (text & image)
photo of car outside cottage
The first car to come to the shop. A salesman from Crawfords Biscuits (Mr Kaye). Long before Crawfords became United Biscuits.

There were three shops in Inver during the war which meant you didn't need to go to Tain to do your shopping and with most people only having bicycles the local shopkeepers made sure they had everything and if they didn't have them they would get it for you. The shop in Main Street was regarded better than any supermarket because it was an Ironmongers, Christian bookshop, grocers, post office, paper shop, fruit shop, bakers, chemist, drapers and a shoe shop all in one. You name it they had it. When the village was evacuated everything in the shop had to go as well. Everything was bought by Ross and Co. Balintore.
