Aberdeen
and the war [part 2]
|
Did you make any friends?
Well no, you had to be careful
because you couldn’t trust people during the war. You
just had to stick with the same friends.
Did you have a toilet?
Norman: Yes,
I was brought up in a council house .There was a toilet and
a kitchenette. That was one of the advantages of being in
a council house. It was a great thing.
How did you wash?
Norman: You
see in the council house we had proper bathroom with hot water.
When you burnt the fire there was a boiler at the back of
the fire which heated the water, and I think it was only later
we got an emersion heater so there was no problem about washing.
I remember my mother having a washing machine fairly early
on, but of course you had to load it and work at it all the
time. You couldn’t go and leave it to get on itself.
